Today is Oceans of Plastic Day – a global campaign aimed at addressing the pressing issue of plastic pollution in our oceans.
At Sarah’s Coffee Shop we recognise the importance of playing our part in promoting sustainability and looking after the environment. So, we’re raising awareness, inspiring change and promoting sustainable solutions to combat plastic waste.
The scale of the problem
An estimated 33 billion pounds of plastic pollution enter the world’s oceans every year. That’s roughly equivalent to dumping two garbage trucks full of plastic into the sea every minute.
There are around seven million disposable cups thrown away in the UK each day – most of them laminated or fit with a plastic lid.
Reducing plastic waste
When I started Sarah’s Coffee Shop over three years ago, I wanted to make sure the cups we use will not be cluttering the environment for years to come.
That’s why our takeaway cups are both 100% recyclable and fully compostable. We use cups created by ReCup – the first to achieve the prestigious AAA rating from the European Green Dot scheme.
When you purchase a hot drink from Sarah’s Coffee Shop to takeaway, it will be served in our environmentally friendly, disposable cups. These cups can be transformed into a variety of useful paper products once your hot drink is all gone.
While our takeaway cups are environmentally friendly, we always encourage people to bring their own travel mugs for us to fill up with your preferred hot drink from our wide range of offerings.
Each time you bring in your reusable cup for us to fill, we will give you a 10p discount – meaning you will be saving money and cutting down on waste!
If you don’t already have your own travel mug, we have great quality and totally leakproof mugs for sale at Sarah’s Coffee Shop for £19.99.
Whether your drink is in a reusable mug or a ReCup, you can enjoy your favourite hot drink from Sarah’s Coffee Shop on the go, while remaining kind to the environment.
We also make sure we recycle our plastic milk bottles – we use quite a few! When we first opened on Severalls Business Park, there were no recycling bins so I asked the landlord to have one put in place so all tenants on the business park can recycle.
I am delighted to be able to do my bit to help the environment and to keep our beautiful corner of the country looking picturesque.
Thank you to our customers for choosing to be kind to the environment and I hope to see you using your reusable cups next time you visit us at Sarah’s Coffee Shop!
Make sure you keep up to date with what we have on offer each day via our social media channels or come and see us at Severalls Business Park in Colchester, Wherstead Park in Ipswich – or book the Horse Box for an event!
